Laura Smithburg Byrne received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degress from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Alice Chalifoux. She began her teaching career while in graduate school teaching in the preparatory division of the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Many of Laura's friends and colleagues from her college days are some of the leading harpist performers and instructors of today. Her five summers in Camden, Maine studying at the Salzedo Harp Colony brought her into contact with harpists from all over the world who were there studying intensively with Miss Chalifoux.
Since that time Laura Smithburg Byrne has taught beginners through College/University level students in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Louisville, Kentucky, and the triangle area of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Currently, Mrs. Byrne is the harp instructor at Duke University, and UNC-Chapel Hill, NC. Laura Byrne teaches the Salzedo technique of harp playing and is fulfilling the legacy of Carlos Salzedo's method of excellence in harp instruction and harp performance. Mrs. Byrne networks with other professional harpists and instructors throughout the world and continues to strive for excellence with her students and in performance.
